Frequently Asked Questions

The Student Learning Platform

If you are having trouble on the student learning platform (where your classes are hosted), please try the following things before contacting us:

  1.   Clear cache and restart the browser
  2.   Try a different browser (our teaching platform recommends Google Chrome)
  3.   Try an Incognito / Private Window (this will rule out an issue with browser extensions)
  4.   Restart the device
  5.   If possible, try a different device
  6.   If possible, try a different internet connection

How long can I access the training I purchase?

Once you purchase your training (which is hosted on a teaching platform called Thinkific), it will be accessible to you indefinitely unless it is specifically listed that there is a deadline for access. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email us at [email protected] to ask!

Is this a medical or treatment-oriented course?

Nope. These courses are not considered a medical treatment nor do they establish a doctor/patient or therapist/client relationship (see our Terms of Use document). These courses are “skills training”, to teach and reinforce evidence-based treatments for pain and stress. We encourage you to use them in conjunction with in-person or telehealth meetings with your treatment providers. We also encourage you to talk with your treatment providers about these classes so they are aware you are proactively engaged in getting well!

Do I have to have any experience with meditation to take the mindfulness courses?

Absolutely not! We expect that many people who begin with us are new to this practice and we are excited to introduce you to this amazing approach to life.

Please join us, we believe you will be glad you did! There is a FREE class called Mindfulness: The Basics. That is a pre-recorded course to help you learn, you guessed it… the “basics”. This really refers to the basic philosophy and concepts behind mindfulness and meditation. Then, we hope you will be inspired to choose any our other trainings, particularly our 8-week course.

As a note, taking additional mindfulness trainings – even just joining us for the live meditation sessions – is what will really help you strengthen and cement your practice. We want to support your growth in this area, so we hope you’ll commit to YOU and take time for these sessions.

I am not an expert at Zoom, but want to take a live session. What can I do to prepare for that?

Please see the following links for assistance with Zoom and for building comfort and familiarity with this platform.

https://support.zoom.us/

In addition to checking out the link above for details straight from Zoom, here are some other tips:

  • please arrive 5-10 minutes early for your class
  • make sure you have Zoom set up correctly (perhaps practice with someone prior to the class) and that you have good internet access
  • feel free to block your video during a class, but know that we would prefer you join with your camera on, so that we can mimic in-person classes as much as possible (when we record the class, we do not record student videos)
  • mute your line for the entire class unless the teacher calls on you to ask a question
  • to ask a question, please either type it in the chat area or click on “reactions” and click the button for “raise your hand”. It is of note that the instructor for each class will let you know the structure and timing of questions for the class

How are your courses set up?

We offer trainings in a variety of methods. They include

  • pre-recorded courses that you can complete at your own pace
  • live courses
  • a combination of both

Our Trainings may have “homework” but we promise to try to make it relevant and related to getting you to course goals. And, because you did sign up, we trust that you’re ready for it!

How should I approach this course?

This is a great question! We recommend that you allow for time before and after the course to prepare and have time to focus on you and your wellness. It is such a common occurrence that people schedule things back-to-back, so they don’t get time to transition in a healthy, intentional way. We encourage you to try it; give yourself time… in case a live class goes long, in case you want to extend the training by sitting quietly afterwards to “just be”, or in case you just need to rest after your hard work at learning and trying out new skills.

Do you offer scholarships?

We are working on getting that set up, but it may take some time. Please practice patience with this and keep an eye out here for changes!

I am experiencing current, active mental health symptoms OR have current or unresolved trauma that seems to be intruding into my life. Should I take one of your courses?

Thank you for acknowledging where you are on your journey, and being open to things as they are.

Although we would love to have you join us in learning skills that can reduce pain and the impacts of life stressors, if you are noticing active mental health symptoms or have experienced recent or unresolved trauma, the best first step is to seek out individualized, in-person care. This could be with your Primary Care Physician (PCP) or a counselor, therapist, psychologist, or psychiatrist in your local area (or telehealth of course!). (Please see our liability waiver, which also mentions refraining from attending one of our courses while you are in the middle of dealing with a traumatic situation or other intrusive mental health symptoms.)

We want to validate your distress: with all that has been occurring in the US and the world, there are a lot of people in need of support and tools for health and wellness. According to the American Psychological Association website: “We are facing a national mental health crisis that could yield serious health and social consequences for years to come.”

Our courses and trainings are meant to serve as tools, or skill-building exercises, to help you learn and strengthen healthy habits. The courses offered through this website do not initiate or constitute a psychologist/patient relationship, so we cannot be considered your medical/psychiatric treatment provider (see our Terms of Agreement document as a reminder).

Sometimes, the truth is, we need to get some stabilizing support individually first and THAT IS OK! Take care of your immediate needs and join us when you and your doctor decide you are ready.

What can I do to make sure these techniques work?

The best thing to do is to practice, practice, practice! These techniques are not “magic” and do not always work quickly, particularly when you have been dealing with a protracted experience of pain or stress. What we DO know is that the techniques learned here are the best ways to help reduce – or even alleviate – the impact of chronic pain and stress. They are backed in the latest science. But that doesn’t make it easy. Please practice consistently, but also stay attuned to your needs. Sometimes practices can feel overwhelming, so you may need to take a break or modify your practice to make it more tolerable. PLEASE ease up a bit when needed. The point is to keep returning to the skills we KNOW work long term. Science tells us that repetition is what will build habits, or change them if needed.

Do you have any CE training opportunities available?

Although we are not yet offering CE training, that is our goal for the near future. We encourage you to check back often or email us at [email protected] with questions.

If I decide I would like to cancel a course for which I registered and paid, how do I do that?

We request that you contact us with concerns or questions about any course prior to cancelling. It means a lot to us that you are satisfied and we would like an opportunity to fix any issues that come up. Having said that, many of our classes are refundable, as mentioned in our Terms of Use document. That document is available for viewing on our Website and is a pre-requisite to read prior to taking any class. The refund policy is as follows:

5c. Returns and Refunds. You may cancel your order, unless it is listed as “non-refundable” on the site, at any time within seven (7) days after placing your order by contacting Company at [email protected]. You will receive a refund of the price you paid LESS the original shipping and handling costs, and any cancellation service fees listed on the website for that specific purchase. You are also responsible for any shipping and handling charges on items that need to be mailed back to Company. You bear the risk of loss for shipments returned to Company. Your refund will be credited to the same method of payment you used when initially purchasing products or services.

What if I have other questions?

Please reach out to [email protected] or click here. If you have a question, it is likely someone else has the same one too, so we may even put in in our FAQs!
